I just spoke one-on-one with Sgt. David Scott — the man now charged with animal cruelty after viral video showed his dog, Rooster, in the bed of his truck in the 84 degree heat and then Rooster fell off.
He says it was a horrific mistake because he had left a carabiner on Rooster’s custom leash and that gave him several extra inches allowing Rooster to fall from the truck.
As far as the heat, he said he had a gallon of water in the back of the truck that Rooster had access to and that he had eaten a short time before this happened.
He also says Rooster rides on the back of the truck all the time and the locals know Rooster.
Lastly, Scott insists he’d never intentionally harm his dog.
