Alleged Cat Killer Chooses Not To Fight The Charges
San Antonio, Texas- The case against an alleged cat killer is now moving forward, and animal advocates are watching closely because this case involves a kitten “allegedly” strangled to death in San Antonio.
Ryan Berlanga is facing a felony animal cruelty case in Bexar County’s 379th District Court. Court records show he is charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, accused of causing death, poisoning, or serious bodily injury. The charge is listed as a third-degree felony, with the alleged offense date recorded as November 9, 2025.
It’s a case we have been closely watching since the very beginning. If you recall, I had a brief conversation with his parents and they told me they weren’t involved and that I should essentially move along.
Berlanga was arrested back on November 18th, 2025 by San Antonio police.
His bond was set at $60,000, and court records show conditions that included no firearm possession, a no-contact order, partial GPS monitoring, and a mental health 16.22 report being ordered.
Berlanga was indicted by a grand jury on February 12th, 2026, and the indictment was served in open court on March 31st.
Fastforward to May 12th, court records show Berlanga waived a jury, acknowledged discovery, filed stipulations, and applied for deferred adjudication. Berlanga pleaded no contest to felony animal cruelty charges, including the case involving the kitten.
This is not over. A pre-sentence investigation setting is scheduled for July 6, 2026, and sentencing still has to be finalized.
