BREAKING: CASE CLOSED: But the fight for Rocco is far from over
DeSoto, Texas – Rocco died alone in a hot Texas backyard. His neighbor, Jaida Grace, says she had watched the two-year-old Goldendoodle spend long stretches tethered outside in triple-digit heat and became so concerned about him that she got in touch with DeSoto Animal Control. When Animal Control responded, it was already too late. Rocco was still outside and still tethered, but this time he wasn’t moving.
We first told you about Rocco last month, and since then, Grace has refused to let his story simply disappear. She documented what she saw and spoke publicly about what happened. Rocco’s death sparked outrage not only across North Texas but around the country, with thousands of people joining the call for answers and accountability.
Now comes an update many of them may have a difficult time accepting. DeSoto Police told CBS News Texas they investigated Rocco’s death and have closed the case. No criminal charges have been filed.
Rocco’s owner is also giving his side of what happened and disputes allegations that Rocco was neglected or unloved. He says Rocco normally had access to shade, food and water, but that on the day he died, his tether became tangled and he was unable to free himself. The family calls Rocco’s death an “unfortunate accident” and says they are grieving the loss of a beloved member of their family.
Is this really where Rocco’s story ends?
