REUNITED: Stolen Dog Returned Home But Police Still Searching for Suspect
Colorado Springs, Colorado – Blanco is home. That’s the best news of all. But the story is far from over.
It begins with Ring camera video capturing a man entering a family’s fenced backyard and approaching the friendly two-year-old dog. Blanco appears to greet the individual as if he recognizes him. That was not the case.
Blanco briefly gets away, but on a second attempt, the individual grabs him and leaves with him.
The video spreads across social media and local news as Blanco’s family desperately searches for him.
Then comes the news everyone has been hoping for.
Blanco is returned home Sunday night.
And then there’s this.
The man reportedly leaves behind a handwritten note claiming he was drunk and did not remember much of what happened, that he had cared for Blanco, and was sorry for taking him.
Well, that just doesn’t cut it.
Under Colorado law, dogs are generally treated as personal property. Investigators will determine whether the facts support criminal charges such as theft, trespass, or other offenses.
Right now, the Colorado Springs Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying the individual seen in the surveillance video. As of this posting, police have not released any additional updates in the case.
